Chinese Maori Tattoo Designs Are Very Sacred

New Zealand's Maori tribe has a long history of tattooing. Tattoos are very much a part of their ancient culture and this still remains up to this day. Maori tattoo designs in their language are referred to as moko. Their facial tattoos are so intricate that these are designed to serve as identification in society.

The Maori men wore moko on their faces, buttocks and thighs, while the women wore the moko on their chins and lips. The designs are mostly spirals to mimic their creativity in woodcarving. The tattoos are markings for a person's clan and social status. The warriors of the tribe believe that the tattoos make them fearsome and intimidating.

Tattooing is such an important part of the Maori culture. In fact, members of the tribe who do not have any tattoos are considered worthless. They give much fuss about tattooing rituals especially during passage of kids to adulthood and other important life events. Every tattoo on their bodies means something significant in their lives.

The Maoris do not like seeing their tattoo designs on people who do not belong to their tribe. This is why it is important that you look for an artist who can come up with a Maori tattoo that does not use any of the tribe's very important symbols that are sacred to them.

Although the original wearers of this type of tattoo mostly have them on their faces, and legs, the modern Maori tattoo designs look really good on the shoulder rather than on the face.
