Bila Anda Ada Kawan Seperti Saya Ada...

Sebelum mula menulis, aku dah siap2 mintak Jonsi temankan aku. And geng-geng dia yang lain - Sigur Ros. Untuk kekuatan memuntahkan entry ini hahaha. Intro macam bodoh.

Shiiii-laaa-kaaa

(okay, kata hikmat ni aku pinjam dari movie yang di review secara simple oleh Step)

Entry ini bukan pasal movie tersebut - The Ghost Must Be Crazy (Link pun aku copy dari Step wakakaka) tetapi pasal kejadian yang berlaku selepas itu. Seperti yang dinyatakan oleh kuyat berkaki pendek ini, aku n dia pergi ke 1st Avenue untuk berjumpa dengan seorang sahabat lama yang sama-sama tarik hingus masa sekolah rendah dulu. Kita bagi nama dia Biskut la k. Senang. Sebab tepi laptop aku ada biskut.

Sebelum jumpa Biskut, aku dah bagitau Step, perangai Biskut ni lain sikit. Ada sedikit aura2 dewa di langit. Berlagak la.

Actually, Biskut dah mesej aku awal-awal. Berikut adalah pebualan kitorang through sms :

(Semua dalam Bahasa Sarawak - pandai-pandai la korang translate k? hahahha~ malas nak translate kan )

B : Pa molah? Ku kat Penang. Esok balit.

A : Sapa tok? Sorry, hp ku ilang riya

(Phone lama aku kena curi dgn number2 skali sbb aku suka save dlm phone memory. Sebenarnya aku ada save number mamat ni tp dalam phone DiGi n bukan Maxis hahaha - adoii~)

B : *Biskut Lexus* (bukan nama sebenar) yo

A : Haha. I'm watching movie. In Komtar (yang sebenarnya Perangin) right now.

B : Me too la, come I show you my shop location

A : Tunggu habis movie k?

B : Kul brapa?

A : X tauk. Baru start tok haha

Aku pun sambung tengok movie. Few minutes later. Another text came in. From him :

B : I wanna go to Gurney via bus.

Aku berkerut sedikit tengok mesej tu. A bit annoyed sebab aku tengah tengok movie. And aku reply seringkas yang boleh :

A : 304 - merujuk kepada number bus yang pergi ke Gurney.

Langsung dia senyap lepas tu. And aku pun sambung bergelak ketawa menonton movie separuh paloi dari Singapore ni. Boleh la tahan menggeletek jantung. Selesai movie, aku teringat kat dia. I felt bad because I answered dia macam tu. So aku text dia :

A : On your way to Gurney already?

B : Belum sis

Gila. Buat aku makin rasa bersalah. Aku sangat bersalah bila aku buat jahat n orang panggil aku sis lepas tu. Rasa macam sangat-sangat bersalah. I dunno why but this is just what I am.

A : I wanna go back already. Where are you? Tot u go to Gurney already.

B : In 1st Ave. *smiley* Ok then, bye.

Damn. kenapa aku rasa bersalah? So, aku pun kata :

A : There's nothing in 1st Avenue la hahaha. Come la lets meet for a while. jaik jak rasa sik jumpa.

B : Cney? 1st Avenue building design interior reminds me of being in Singapore. Where you wanna meet? Lets drink something *smiley*

Now aku boleh rasa dia actually mesej tadi sebab nak ada kawan. Tapi, aku serba bersalah jugak dengan Lia yang tengah sakit perut n Step yang tengah syok mencedok yougart. So I told them I wanna meet him. And suggest to Lia untuk wait for rakan-rakan lain di bus station yang dah berjanji untuk jumpa kat sana. And kalau bus datang awal, just balik dulu sebab dia sangat-sangat tak selesa. Aku mintak Step temankan cos I dun wanna meet him alone. And I didn't plan untuk stay lama-lama.

A : I'm with friend la. Baru balit church tadik. Where are u in 1st Avenue?

B : I'm walking out now. Station 1 can?

Mana la pulak Station 1 ni? Aku dan Step dah di dalam 1st Avenue. Malas nak berjalan ke hulu ke hilir dah. So, aku reply dia balik, suh dia masuk semula ke 1st Avenue.

A : Where? Aku 1st floor 1st Avenue tok. Nangga bra (Which is not true. Aku saja letak sbb aku memang suka mengarut)

While waiting for him, aku bagi warning sikit to Step about him. So that nanti kalau jumpa, dia tak terkejut kuyat. Tunggu punya tunggu, tak muncul. I showed her his photo supaya dia boleh tolong locate Biskut. Kot2 ternampak. And then, lepas tu aku nampak dia. Berjalan dengan santai and relax macam orang normal di level ground floor. Aku ni jenis tak malu - so aku jerit nama dia. He heard me and tercari-cari. Aku suh dia pandang atas. Dia pun pandang - and aku confrim confident, dia nampak Step jugak.

Tiba-tiba bila dia jalan ke escalator, gaya jalan tu terus berubah. Jadi cool and ... ... ... ... berlagak? Aku geleng-geleng kepala je la. And buat bodoh.

Peristiwa seterusnya berlaku seperti apa yang di ceritakan oleh Step dalam entry ini.

Actually, he's a nice guy. Dia childhood friend aku. Tapi, dia banyak berpindah randah sebab parents dia bertukar-tukar tempat kerja. Dia dari keluarga yang senang. Berbeza dengan aku yang dari family - erm, kurang senang. Nak kata sederhana pun tidak.

Masa sekolah dulu, sekolah rendah - kitorg tak la rapat mana. Dia dengan gang high class dia. Aku dengan gang middle class aku. Tapi, bila masuk sekolah menengah, aku termasuk dalam kelas pelajar pintar (time tu la. sekarang ni kurang pintar sikit sebab selalu culah2) - yang rata-rata terdiri daripada mereka-mereka yang lahir dalam keluarga yang senang. The elitist la konon. Mudah nak cerita. Being around them, aku rasa insecure. Aku rasa bodoh. Hodoh. Miskin dan pelbagai lagi perasaan negatif lain.

Perasaan negatif aku menjadi semakin negatif bila aku selalu menjadi mangsa suruhan. Tapi, dalam masa yang sama, aku ada sorang kawan baik. Pompuan. Pun elit. But she's very kind and gentle. Even until now. Cuma sekarang kami tidak rapat. Masa menengah rendah (junior high school), family aku ada krisis kewangan. So, untuk berjimat, aku selalu bawa bekal. Bekal tu kadang-kadang mak aku sediakan. But biasanya, aku sendiri bangun pagi n sediakan. Bekal popular aku zaman tu adalah nasi goreng corned beef (nasi putih, goreng dengan daging lembu dalam tin). Mudah, cepat n sedap - sebab aku suka corned beef.

Jenama ni famous pada 90-an. Dulu sedap. Daging banyak. Sekarang rasa macam makan tepung.

Masa rehat, aku and kawan aku ni akan share bekalan makanan. Dia punya makanan of course la sedap-sedap. Dia kata nasik aku pun sedap hahaha. Ada satu masa tu, mak aku yang gorengkan nasik goreng kegemaran aku ni. Tengah-tengah makan, Biskut and kawan dia - kita panggil Kaya la k - datang la. Diorang pun bawa bekal. Tapi bekal diorang roti sosej la etc (masa tu roti sosej mahal. Sekarang seketul RM 1.20, RM 1.50) yang dibuat sendiri oleh mak diorang. Ulang sekali lagi - DIBUAT SENDIRI OLEH MAK DIORANG.

Ye, mak diorang, selain dari kaya rayap, juga hebat di dapur and sentiasa memastikan anak-anak makan dengan sebaik mungkin. Well, Kaya datang and tengok apa aku and kawan aku makan. Dia tengok, and cakap-cakap and gelak-gelak dengan Biskut. Aku copy balik cerita ni dari entry 1984 k :

"During recess, Brian (my classmate – anak org senang jugak), looked at my nasi goreng and said, “What are u eating?(sambil makan roti sosej made by his mum). Looks like my dog’s food la hahahaha!!!”. Danggg…! I was very hurt. But I didn’t said anything. And then Pris said, “You shouldn’t said that. Whatever we’re having, made with love by our parents. Just like yours. You shouldn’t said makanan org lain macam makanan anjing.”

Aku tak sanggup nak re-type hahaha. Nanti tak pasal-pasal pecah empangan mata ni hahaha. Rest of the story boleh baca kat entry 1984 la k. Terasa sangat hina la masa tu.

Tapi, aku tak marah la. Cuma aku terasa hati.

See, we come from different background. Cara kitorang dididik and dibesarkan adalah berbeza. Our parents are strict. Sama-sama garang and sangat mementingkan class. Not mine la. Kitorg dididik dengan cara yang garang, brutal n sadis. Bapak orang pukul guna rotan, bapak aku pukul guna kayu penyapu. When we engkar, we're not allowed to eat. Kena perintah berkurung kalau asyik bermain di luar. Tak reti belajar, kena sebat. Tak dengar cakap, depan-depan orang kena tengking. Bilik sepah, satu rumah kena kemas. Bangun lambat, kena bantai. Abang aku kena sepak hahaha. This is just some of the army-like-training kitorg dapat kat rumah.

While kanak-kanak dari golongan elit ni, aku tak tau macam mana parents diorang didik. From what I see that time, mak garang - sebab bila mak jerkah, diorang dengar. But dengan dad manja - bila mak jerkah, lari pada ayah and peluk-peluk manja. My siblings and I?

Kena jerkah dengan daddy, lari pergi mummy, kena rotan hahaha.

Our social circle adalah lanjutan dari apa yang ada dari rumah. Aku berkawan dengan orang yang latar belakangnya sama macam aku jugak. Cuma bila masuk sekolah menengah, secara spesifiknya, masa junior high school n senior high school, baru la aku bergaul dengan elitist ni. Diorang dengan diorang sendiri pun akan berlagak and cuba merendah-rendahkan antara satu sama lain. Backstabbing, gossipping etc adalah perkara biasa. Dengki mendengki. Kawan tak kawan hahaha. Aku belajar dari sini la hahahahaha...

So, Biskut and Kaya - bestfriend. Diorang takde la bawa perangai macam ni. Cuma, mangsa diorang adalah orang-orang macam aku. But, bila direnung-renungkan kembali, aku rasa masa Kaya kata makanan aku tu makanan anjing, aku tak rasa he meant it untuk menyakitkan hati. Dia nak bergurau but gurauan dia sangat tak kena pada tempatnya hahahaha.

Membesar dalam kelompok yang berbeza, aku tak paham cara dia bersosial and dia pun tak paham cara aku bersosial. But thank God, Dia bagi aku skill "cepat adapt" dengan keadaan persekitaran dan juga skill sesumpah (binatang boleh tukar2 warna kulit). Instead of trying to make them understand my background, I tried to blend in to their society. Bad move but at the same time, smart jugak. Aku lebih kenal mereka-mereka ini. But they don't really understand me. The real me.

Menengah atas (senior high school) - aku 'lepaskan' sedikit demi sedikit the real me. Pantang orang usik, aku jadi askar yang bapak aku ajar. Aku pernah terbalikkan meja satu kelas gara-gara ada orang ambik kerusi aku (Kerusi aku adalah salah satu kerusi yang dalam keadaan elok pada masa tu). And mulut aku start shiii-laaa-kaaa. Aku lebih mudah say what's on my mind and be myself. This, membuatkan aku lebih ramai rakan-rakan dari opposite sex, termasuk Biskut and Kaya. And they also sedikit sebanyak dah boleh memahami latar belakang aku. They know aku bukan dari family yang senang. They know what I like etc, and most of it I can't afford. Even library membership.

So, one of them (bagi nama Anlene) selalu meminjam buku dari library untuk keluarga-keluarga yang bekerja di SHELL, MLNG, ABF - buku-buku Enid Blyton adalah favourite aku masa tu. Dia pinjam. Buat-buat baca dalam kelas, depan aku, sebab he knew I really, really loved to read. Bila aku pandang je, Anlene jeling. Dia tutup buku. Datang ke meja aku and letak buku atas meja. Ayat biasa dia pakai, "Aku dah habis baca. Ko baca la. Sayang hantar awal2".

Aku belek belakang buku. Baru pinjam ari ni. Seminggu lagi nak hantar. Masa tu, dua hari je aku dapat habiskan sebuah novel. Ye, aku suka membaca. Thanks to Anlene yang berlagak dan perasan hensem (he's very handsome btw sbb dia berdarah campur), Bahasa Inggeris aku not bad masa tu.

Another guy, kita panggil Goku - Selalu bawa komik dia ke sekolah. Ayat biasa, "Aku beli komik baru marek. Ko orang kedua aku bagi baca." Padahal aku tak mintak. And yes, aku memang suka baca komik.

Kaya selalu share his buns dengan aku. Alasan dia,"mak aku molah banyak la pagi tadi. Dah boring ku makan." And he'll eat my bekal. Yang kuantitinya sebenarnya lebih banyak dari bun yang dia bagi.

Biskut... Biskut pun sama. Sometimes belanja makan di kantin. Sometimes tanya apa aku nak. Tapi aku tak pernah jawab sebab kalau aku dapat something yang bukan parents aku beli, aku akan kena sebat.

Dan bermacam-macam lagi cara diorang menunjukkan kebaikan tapi melalui cara yang... Kalau orang lain tengok, macam sangat berlagak. Aku tak ada duit. So aku selalunya tak mampu nak bagi diorang apa-apa. Cuma yang aku pasti, masa tu aku selalu kasi pinjam telinga untuk mendengar luahan n masalah diorang. And sometimes menjadi tukang bagi nasihat. Walau pun mostly nasihat aku tak boleh pakai.

Itu dengan budak-budak elit lelaki. Dengan perempuan aku masih kurang selesa. Melainkan dengan kawan aku yang sorang tadi.

Fast forward ke 5 or 6 tahun lepas. Masa tu Friendster tengah hot and terkini.

Aku reconnect balik dengan semua jantan-jantan elit ni. Seronoknya bukan main. Anlene yang playboy masa tu ada gf yang cantik. Sepadan dengan dia. Aku di KL, dia pun di KL. We planned to meet, tapi tak pernah jumpa.

Ada sekali aku balik Bintulu, I went to my back to my old school. Kebetulan Anlene lalu, naik motor. Dia jerit-jerit dari jauh. Aku ingat ada orang nak mengorat (gila perasan cantik okay dengan spec ala nerd frame kaler merah sirap). Aku buat bodo. Pandang tempat lain. Tetiba motor dia berhenti tepi aku. Dia buka helmet. Muka macam happy. Tapi ayat yang keluar dari mulut berbaur poyos. Like before. Like always.

"Hey, how are you? Long time no see eh? Doing great?," sambil mengusap rambut ala-ala dalam iklan minyak rambut and kening terangkat. Aku jawab la aku ok. Lepas berborak beberapa minit, dia pun pergi. Aku cuma mampu tersenyum n geleng-geleng kepala.

Aku jumpa Kaya and Biskut pun dalam Friendster. Yang paling rajin mesej aku adalah Biskut. Dia selalu update pasal diri dia. And share banyak benda. Kadang-kadang, aku kembali memegang peranan asal - menjadi tong sampah tempat dia membuang masalah. Tapi aku tak kisah. Dia kawan. Sahabat lama.

Fast forward ke tahun ini.

Di Penang. Selepas banyak kali merancang untuk berjumpa sejak beberapa tahun sebelumnya, kitorg akhirnya berjumpa semula buat pertama kalinya beberapa bulan yang lepas. Before that, kitorg cuma sembang-sembang dalam Facebook (Friendster dah outdated ok. Tapi aku masih simpan akaun tu sbb mesej2 Mr J ada dalam tu ngehehehehe).

Aku teruja nak jumpa dia. Dalam masa yang sama, takut juga. I'm still me. Dia?

Worst fear confirm bila dia datang dengan perangai douchebag-nya. Fakk. Aku sungguh-sungguh menyampah. Aku rasa-rasa macam dia kutuk nasik goreng aku walaupun pada masa tu aku tengah makan chicken chop. Dia masa tu komplen makanan tempat yang aku suggest untuk hang out - Coffee Island di Persiaran Gurney.

Aku suggest tempat makan tu sebab tempat dia terbuka and aku suka suasana relax kat situ. And sebab kedua, aku nak bawa roommate aku yang kaki makan merasa makanan kat situ.

Masa tu aku rasa macam kat high school balik. Maybe sebab lama tak jumpa, aku jadi tak biasa dengan lawak-lawak sinis orang-orang elit ni. But, maybe salah aku jugak sebab bawak roommate aku. Aku tau Biskut jenis orang macam mana - And, ni first time jumpa lepas habis high school. Dia mesti tak selesa. Aku pun tak selesa. Sebenarnya, aku tak selesa jugak keluar dengan dia sorang. Sebab tu aku bawak rommate aku.... huhuuh...Wrong move I guess.

Keadaan tak sebagus dalam FB. Kitorg tak banyak bercakap. Tapi bila balik, contact balik guna FB, dia okay lagi.

Fast forward to today.

Masa nak jumpa dia, aku jadi ragu-ragu balik. Dulu masa 1st time jumpa dia, aku terkejut dengan accent dia (lama tak dengar dia bercakap secara live di depan aku), dengan cara dia etc... Sebenarnya tak banyak beza dengan masa sekolah menengah.

Step, accent nya nang kedak ya sejak skool. Sebab di rumah nya memang klakar orang puteh jak.

Masa tunggu Biskut, aku try untuk jadi aku masa di high school. Cuba untuk jadi part of his world. Tapi, aku rasa, kalau aku buat macam tu, aku akan deny siapa aku sekarang. My real self. Aku menimbang-nimbang guna dacing BN dalam otak...

So I decided to be myself and a bit of my high school persona. It's a good thing aku ajak Step dengan aku (walaupun dia mungkin kurang selesa - sorry Step!). Having her with me at that time buat aku jadi diri aku. Lebih confident hahaha.

Biskut datang - masa mula-mula jumpa, aku jadi budak sekloah menengah. Bila dia start je suggest tempat-tempat lepak yang mengarut-ngarut, aku jadi diri aku sendiri. And aku rasa, lepas high school, dia mungkin takda kawan yang shii-laa-kaaa macam aku, jadi dia a bit terkejut.

Aku terus je jadi aku sendiri - even masa lepak pun - and berlaku la kejadian tembak-menembak antara aku dengan dia di OldTown 1st Avenue...

Yang akhirnya mengurangkan ketegangan antara aku dengan dia. Dia pun kurang layan laptop and hand phone. Cuma ada masa kalau dia tak pay attention pada apa aku cakap, aku tendang kaki dia hahaha. Aku bencik kalau orang tak tumpukan perhatian masa aku tengah bercakap. especially kalau perbualan tu engkau yang start dulu.

Kemudian datang Lia dengan cerita seram kena kejar dengan lelaki India and cerita babi golek, plus si Kevin yang mengumpat pasal lecturer selepas balik dari gereja and etc... Semakin mengurangkan ketegangan.

Masa dia balik, aku mintak maaf sebab tiap kali jumpa, aku mesti bawa kawan. Aku takut dia kurang selesa. But he said it's okay. It was awkward, especially bila cerita serious tiba-tiba bertukar jadi cerita babi golek. It wasn't really his type of conversation hahaha. Tapi dia ada gelak-gelak gak. So, I guess, it was okay then... I really hope so.

Biskut - like I said earlier, is a nice guy. Lain dari Biskut yang aku kenal masa sekolah, tapi aku pasti Biskut yang lama masih ada dalam this new Biskut. Aku rasa dia try very hard to act cool, especially dengan orang-orang yang baru.

Aku ada ramai kawan-kawan yang pelik. When I said weird, sila imagine Lady Gaga dan orang-orang seangkatan dengannya. Kawan aku paling tua, lebih tua dari bapak aku. Bila orang tengok, first impression diorang biasanya buruk, negative or tersasar. But, bila masing-masing dah bergaul, boleh la menerima sikit kot. Tadi Biskut masih lagi tidak terbuka. Nampak sangat awkward hahahaha.

Aku ramai male friend dari female friend. Sebab dengan male friend, aku boleh cakap sesuka hati. Nasib baik la kuyat-kuyat perempuan yang aku kenal di USM ni, especially dalam CUS, sama spesis macam aku - semuanya jantan tak jadi - So, aku boleh cakap lepas je dengan diorang. Gurau2 culah, cakap2 culah and share whatever that's on my mind.

Bila anda ada kawan-kawan seperti yang saya ada....

You'll see yourself dengan cara yang berbeza. Dari pandangan yang berbeza. And it helps you to appreciate yourself more.

That's what my relationship with orang yang pelbagai ajar aku.

p/s : Entry ni ditulis dengan perasaan yang bercampur baur. Jadi, sila abaikan kalau ada part-part yang tak ada kaitan antara satu sama lain. Aku cuma bercerita mengikut skrip yang dikeluarkan oleh hati aku masa ni.

Sarawak Election 2011

Okay, this is not written by me.

I just wanna share today's Sarawak nyer election punya report. This first report is from Malaysia Kini.

Here's the live report/news (up to 2310 hrs, 16 April 2011) yang aku copy and paste from the website :

12.13am : (Miri) Still at Miri Indoor Stadium, the tally center for Senadin, PKR has decided to lodge a police report over the returning officer’s (RO) refusal to entertain requests for a recount.

In addition, PKR will file a petition with the EC soon after discussing with their lawyers, over the incident at SK Kuala Baram 2 polling centre earlier today where the RO had been photographed allegedly allowing SUPP members to distribute leaflets inside the hall.

Tian Chua is speaking to their 100 to 200 supporters, who are still gathered at the centre while the FRU remains on standby.

11.17pm : PKR Nr 2 Azmin Ali tweets, "BN Sarawak's popular vote has slumped badly from 62.93 percent kepada 55.24 percent. Congratulations Sarawakians," he says.

11.10pm : (Miri) At Miri Indoor Stadium the police try to push away Elizabeth Wong, and as her assistant tries to help her, the cops haul him off in a police car.

11.00pm : (Sibu) Some 500 DAP supporters and voters patiently await four DAP candidates’ return to the operations centre.

The crowd greets them warmly with cheers and DAP slogans. They have been waiting in the streets along Rejang Park for five hours.

Newly-elected Bukit Assek assemble person Wong Ho Leng leads his team to express appreciation to the supporters.

Wong says Bawang Assan candidate Alice Lau was defeated but not in spirit, and will continue to work hard.

After the speech the four candidates are treated like movie stars as supporters jostle to take photographs with them.

With Wong and Lau are newly elected Pelawan assembly person David Wong and Dudong assembly person Yap Hoi Liong.

10.50pm : (Kuching) Lim Guan Eng is addressing some 200 supporters outside the Kuching DAP headquarters.

"This is a very, very historical day for Sarawak," said Lim.

Lim is flanked by Lim Kit Siang, Karpal Singh, Fong Kui Lun, Tony Pua and the four victorious DAP candidates.

10.35pm : (Kuching) Abdul Taib Mahmud sworn in as chief minister of Sarawak to serve his seventh term at the Astana, the official residence of the Yang Di Pertua Negeri Sarawak Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng.

10.40pm : (Miri) SUPP's Lee Kim Shing and his supporters are forced to flee Miri Indoor Stadium due to the protests outside.

50 FRU members show up outside the hall to control the crowd.

Inside, Tian Chua, PKR candidate Michael Teo, and other PKR members have been arguing with the returning officer for almost 50 minutes.

“Do you get your instructions from SUPP?” they ask.

10.30pm : (Sibu) About 200 DAP supporters are still gathered in front of the party operations centre in Bukit Assek, transfixed to screens showing the official results of the Sarawak polls.

Like football fans, they cheer every time the results favoured Pakatan Rakyat.

The party is also rousing the crowd and keeping them entertained, playing the Sarawak anthem "Ibu Pertiwiku" sporadically.

The party leaders and candidates have yet to arrive though.

10.19pm : (Miri) Selangor exco Elizabeth Wong tweets that the crowd gathered outside Miri Indoor Stadium is booing the SUPP Senadin winner Lee Kim Shing, and shouting “penipu” (cheat). The police orders the large crowd to disperse as they have no permit to gather there.

They crowds are demanding a recount for Senadin, where PKR has lost by 58 votes.

10.17pm : (On the spot analysis) DAP has hit BN Sarawak the hardest, doubling its seats in this election, and indicates Sarawak politics will get hotter from here on.

PKR has also gained two extra seats, notably Krian clinching a surprise win.

Krian winner Ali Biju, 43 and single, is a self-made businessman in the oil and gas industry based in Bintulu.

PKR attributes Biju’s win to several factors:

• He's a young, popular local boy and businessman who has never been a politician. He is good looking and everyone knows him. When he arrived in his four-wheel drive to announce his candidacy the locals cheered him.

10pm : (On the spot analysis) In Belaga, home of the controversial Bakun dam, BN sees a massive jump in votes.

In 2006, voter turnout was 4,469, with BN winning by a 227 majority.

With the present turnout 5,913, BN’s majority has bloated to a massive 2,928.

This is a stark contrast to the other seats where there appears to be a trend of small reductions in BN’s winning majority.

In particular, some of the Dayak seats observed has seen BN’s majority shrinking below 1,000.

10pm : (Miri) The slim majority for Senadin has caused a fierce argument between PKR members and the returning officer Chai Kohet at Miri Indoor Stadium.

The party is unhappy with the officer's refusal to do a recount.

Earlier as the returning officer prepares to go on stage to announce BN’s Lee Kim Shing as the winner, PKR vice-president Tian Chua demands a recount to be done.

The officer however refuses the repeated requests and turns to the stage for his announcement.

This angers the PKR members, who move forward to protest.

"We want a recount," shouts Chua.

Another angry female member Chua Yee Ling, who is the Hulu Selangor councillor, also shouts, "Are you a SUPP member? You are returning officer."

The police move in to stop them from approaching the stage. One who manages to mount the stage is sent off by the police.

The returning officer continues to make his announcement while the police engage in some pushing with the PKR members.

PKR members continue to protest after SUPP’s Lee Kim Shing is announced the winner and his party celebrates victory.

9.40pm : (Sibu) The retallying of total votes for the Dudong seat is completed and DAP candidate Yap Hoi Liong is officially the winner with a 317 vote majority.

Yap’s family congratulates him.

The voter turnout for Dudong is 74.17 percent.

9.20pm : (Senadin) Although the full result for Senadin has been keyed into the system and BN has won by a 58 vote majority according to the screen, the returning officer has not announced the official results for the seat yet.

As the winning margin is under 2 percent PKR vice president Tian Chua, who is at the tally centre, says he will ask for a recount despite the law having been amended to limit recounts to the stream level.

He raised a few contentious issues, particularly that one of the streams has as much as 85 spoilt votes; extraordinary high compared to the total spoilt votes of 183.

He adds that the postal votes is the main reason for their defeat, with BN getting 1,134 to PKR’s 58 postal votes.

8.58pm : Senadin PKR has lost by 58 votes, and say the main reason is the 1,090 postal votes that has gone to BN.

8.45pm : (Sibu) Bawang Assan candidate and newly-minted assemblyperson Wong Soon Koh from SUPP is booed as he emerges from the tallying centre, after being pronounced as the winner.

The party secretary-general is faced with about 1,500 angry DAP supporters who shout at him to "Step down", amidst allegations of vote-buying by his DAP contender Alice Lau.

He, along with his entourage of 20 SUPP members is forced to flee the tallying centre in Dewan Suarah Sibu with four police cars escorting them.

The DAP supporters disperse shortly after.

8.23pm : Both DAP and PKR win all five seats in Kuching.

(On the spot analysis) SUPP completely rejected in Kuching. Batu Kawah won with help of bumiputera voters, which shows DAP can win some support beyond Chinese voters.

8.17 pm : PKR's Michael Teo Yu Meng has lost Senadin by 61 votes, due to the 1,000 postal votes that has gone to BN.

He went up against SUPP's Lee Kim Shin and PKR's Michael Teo Yu Keng. It's a mix-Chinese-Malay / Melanau-Iban seat.

8.17 pm : (Dudong) DAP Dudong candidate Yap Hoi Liong and Bukit Bendera MP Liew Chin Tong arrive at SJK Thai Kwang, where 150 supporters have gathered at the school.

Liew Chin Tong pacifies the anxious crowd, said that power supply had resumed, and BN-SUPP candidate Tiong Thai King has conceded defeat.

“It shouldn't be any problem,” Liew tells the worried crowd.

The crowd cheers at the unofficial victory of Yap, and shouts the DAP and rocket slogans.

The sudden huge crowd alarms the police, and 30 personnel and 10 light strike force members appear at the polling centre's main entrance.

Yap also arranges for his family members and some supporters to go into the polling centre to make sure everything is okay.

SJK Thai Kwang serves as the polling centre for the Dudong constituency.

8.12pm : (On the spot analysis) The most Pakatan Rakyat can win at this point is 18 seats (DAP 12, PKR 6). But at this point, it's more likely to be 15 seats (DAP 12, PKR 3).

7.56pm : (Dudong) Through loudspeakers, Dudong DAP workers urge the people to head to the counting centre in the Dudong area. As electricity has been cut off, they urge the public to go there to protect the the ballot boxes.

The announcement stirs the mood of the crowd.

A local reporter said that the incident took place at 7.45pm, but power came back 10 minutes later.

DAP supporters still rush there in 20 cars to protect the ballots.

The incident happened amidst the anxiety of the crowd who place their hopes for DAP to win the seat.

7.55pm : (Sibu) DAP candidate for Bawang, Assan Alice Lau concedes defeat at the DAP operations centre.

Wiping away the tears that are streaming her cheeks with a purple handkerchief, she cries even more as the crowd cheers her for putting in a good effort.

“I am happy for my party but I am upset because of the dirty tactics."

“I believe that the voters can see my hard work."

“I lost not to Wong Soon Koh (SUPP candidate and party secretary-general), but I lost to money politics,” she tells Malaysiakini.

7.08pm : (Piasau) DAP's Ling Sie Kiong has being the giant killer in this state election. It is confirmed that he has defeated SUPP boss Dr George Chan - the fourth party leader to suffer a loss after the defeat of the MIC, Gerakan and PPP party chiefs.

About a hundred party supporters are gathered at the Kuching DAP headquarters where live results are being projected on screens on the street.

6.51pm : (Kuching) People are slowly turning up at the chief minister's official residence to await the results.

At the PKR headquarters, a tent and big screen is being set up.

6.50pm : (Miri) with DAP leading in both Piasau and Pujut, the party operations room is now full of celebration.

Anthony Loke has also tweeted that DAP is now leading by 1,277 votes in Piasau with seven streams to go.

"Major upset is on the way!" he says.

6.53pm : PKR has claimed victory in Batu Lintang, a Chinese-majority seat in Kuching. Lawyer See Chee How (right) wins the seat with a 2,426 majority.

6.30pm : (Sibu) DAP prepares two giant screens for the public to know the unofficial results of 15 seats contested by DAP.

A crowd of over 200 DAP supporters are gathering to watch the results.

The crowd passionately cheer and clap hand every time the results show a leap for DAP candidates.

The screen shows DAP is leading in 10 seats, while losing in four seats.

So far ,only the results for Simanggang has yet to appear.

DAP Bukit Assek candidate Wong Ho Leng is leading by a majority of 5,752 votes, where Wong has obtained 8,649, while BN-SUPP candidate Chieng Buong Toon only has 2,897 votes.

Wong won Bukit Assek with 5,629 votes back in the 2006 state election.

6.22pm : (Sibu) SUPP candidate for Bawang Assan and deputy minister Wong Soon Koh has unofficially retained his seat with a 1,810-majority, without counting the postal ballots yet.

When met at the SUPP HQ in Sibu, he says he owes his win to his 28-member bumiputera committee.

"They're the ones who really went all out," he said.

His majority, unofficially, has actually more than doubled since the last parliamentary by-election when BN won with a majority of 805 votes.

"It increased because I went to the ground. In fact since the defeat of the last by-election, I was on the ground all the while and I visited longhouses repeatedly," he said.

When asked about DAP's campaigning among the Chinese voters, he says, "My conscience is clear. No matter how they smear my name with baseless accusations, slander and mischievous allegations, my conscience is clear. It's service above self."

6.20pm : (Sibu) DAP Sarawak chief and Bukit Assek candidate Wong Ho Leng tells Malaysiakini that looking at the unofficial results, DAP might have lost four seats out of 15 seats contested:Simanggang, Dudong, Bawang Assan and Bukit Kota.

He is spotted watching the unofficial result on a giant screen at the Sibu DAP operations centre .

6.17pm : SUPP has retained Bawang Assan with a 1,850-vote majority. The seat is held by Sibu party boss Wong Soon Koh, who ran against Alice Lau. There are still four ballot boxes yet to be opened.

6.13pm : Unofficial : PAS has lost all five seats which it has contested - Tanjung Datu, Muara Tuang,Sadong Jaya, Sebuyau and Beting Maro.

Beting Maro PAS candidate Abang Ahmad Kerdee Ahmad Masagus admits defeat saying, “Although we’ve lost, the Chinese and Iban communities have given us their full support this time around.”

“Only in Beladin we lost over a thousand votes. I am acceptable to this defeat,” he says.

When asked if he was satisfied, he says, “Maybe our strategy is lacking, or we have overlooked certain areas. I think this is fated."

“I will continue to serve the residents of Beting Maro as usual,” he says.

He denies when asked, that they were over-confident, saying they lost out to BN’s last minute strategy of giving out goodies.

“Two days before the polls, BN gave out bicycles and rice. They also promised to move the land office to Beladin,” he says.

6.05pm : (Sibu) The mood at the SUPP HQ in Sibu turns celebratory after a nail-biting wait for the Bawang Assan unofficial results.

Everyone starts clapping when it was announced that they have retained Bawang Assan with a majority of about 1,850 votes, with only four ballot boxes unopened.

6.04pm : Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng says DAP appears to have retained Chinese-majority Meradong and on course to wrest Chinese-majority Repok from SUPP (both in Sarikei), but has lost in Bukit Kota, a racially-mixed seat in Limbang which is contested by DAP for the first time.

5.45pm : In Piasau SUPP’s George Chan trails with 428 to DAP Ling Sie Kiong’s 680. In Kidurong SUPP’s Henry Ling Koung Meng leads with 824 to DAP Chiew Chiu Sing’s 530.

5.05pm : (Beting Maro) The atmosphere at the PAS operations room at Kg Kalok near Pusa is like fans watching a football match. About 30 supporters cheer and shout 'God is Great' each time a new result favouring them is announced.

PAS was heavily trounced in the Beladin voting stream but it still has hopes for a miracle in the Undai and Pusa streams.

5pm : Polling closes in all areas and counting begins.

According to Bernama, all 1,748 polling centres are closed, with counting in interior constituencies with a small number of voters starting as early as 12.30pm.

The least number of voters was recorded at the Rumah TK Pa'Berang polling centre in the Ba'Kelalan constituency with only 20 people casting their ballot.

The tallying centre for Ba'Kelalan is at the Lawas district council.

The first result of the election is expected to be announced at about 8pm.

4.50pm: PKR candidate Abang Zulkifli Abang Engkeh concedes defeat in Saribas.

"As a politician, we will continue to be in politics. This defeat will not dampen my spirit to continue the struggle," he tells Malaysiakini at the PKR operations centre in Debak when the unofficial results obtained by the party shows BN is leading with well over 1,200 majority.

This is his third try in the electoral campaign and second attempt in Saribas. He was defeated in the last state polls by a tissue-thin 94-vote majority, but this time he lost by a massive margin.

"The main factor is money, and the secondary factor is (BN fielding a) new candidate," he says, referring to BN's debutante Muhammad Razi Sitam, who replaced unpopular incumbent Wahbi Junaidi.

"Last night, many voters called me to ask for money but we don't practice vote-buying. Although we have lost, we lost with dignity whereas BN's victory is not a genuine victory," he says.

PKR loses in most of the polling districts, including Kampung Tuie, that has still yet to get clean water supply.

Iban-majority Batang Ai was last contested exactly two years ago in a by-election following the death of the incumbent assembly person. It was won by PRS Malcom Mussen Lamoh, who is defending the seat in this state election.

The Iban-majority semi-rural seat of Layar is the stronghold of deputy chief minister Alfred Jabu, who is seeking his eight consecutive term in this election.

He is challenged by PKR's new face Stanny Embat.

3.58pm : DAP says it is on its way to retain Meradong, which was won by spunky 27-year-old Teng Tze Fui four years ago. She is leading by 459 votes.

3.28pm : PKR deputy president Azmin Ali says that Baru Bian is still leading by 300 votes in Ba'Kelalan as the vote count continues.

Baru's campaign manager Paul has earlier claimed victory.

However, those ballots belong to PKR stronghold areas, he says, so Bian is expected to win.

All polling stations in the hilly rural seat closed by 1pm at the latest.

1.50pm : According to PKR, the vote is really close in Ba'Kelalan. The unofficial result shows PKR's Baru Bian still in the lead by a whisker:

BN : 525

1.30pm : According to BN, PBB is leading PAS in Beting Maro 288 against 144.

1.10pm : PKR says they are also leading in Jepak (PKR - 91, PBB - 81).

12.54pm : PKR says they are also leading in early vote count in Layar and Meluan.

However, in Saribas, BN is leading by 343 votes from six polling stations that have been counted. They consist about 10 percent of the total votes.

Saribas is considered as one of the seats that PKR has the highest chance to win. BN's majority in the last state polls was only 94 votes.

As both are Iban-majority seats, there appears to be a swing among the Iban to Pakatan. But these are very early unofficial results.

12.30pm : Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian is facing a tough fight with his nephew Willie Liau in Ba'Kelalan, a hilly area which borders Indonesia's Kalimantan.

Ba'Kelalan is the smallest seat in Sarawak in terms of voter numbers - it has 6,958 registered voters.

The vote count has already begun in those polling stations which have already closed. The unofficial results so far:

Well, tsunami politik yang ditunggu-tunggu kat Sarawak tak menjadi. Yang jadi cuma la ombak besar yang akhirnya, pecah disebabkab breakwater yang dibina dengan banyaknya di pesisir-pesisir pantai Sarawak.

I don't know about the rest of you Sarawakian, tapi, I was hoping for a change. Suasana sebelum pilihanraya kecil ni bagi aku, sangat menarik. There's are lot of things you can see happening around. Banyak cerita-cerita yang tiba-tiba menjadi headline news, melibatkan politician Malaysia. Most of it cerita mengarut atau lawak (bagi aku) - makes our political arena macam gelanggang Raja Lawak. Lebih lawak dari Raja Lawak.

Tapi, selepas election - duhhh....

Barisan still memegang 2/3 kerusi. Means, tak akan ada perubahan. Sama la jugak macam dulu.

And I'm sad. Very, very, very sad... Area kampung aku, Telang Usan (N67) - dimenangi oleh parti-you-know-what.

Nah...aku rasa takat ni je la.

12.39am : (On the spot analysis)

Islamist party PAS's spectacular defeat can be evaluated over possible factors.

1. Poor campaign machinery

The peninsular campaigners failed to understand the ground sentiment in Sarawak. For one, they misread the warm reception in the rural areas as a show of voter support, when it is just part of the resident’s courtesy to any visitor.

2. Late campaign

PAS left the selection of candidate to the last minute and was slow off the gun. It is understood their prime candidate Abang Ahmad Kerdee Ahmad Abang Masagus was confirmed the night before nominations.

And although they have been in the state for nearly a decade, they seem to have focussed more on the missionary than the political agenda.

3. Overconfidence

On nomination day, with the star reception of their candidate Ahmad Kerdee PAS seems to have taken their opponents too lightly. Their complacency is bolstered by reports of discontent amongst the electorate over the incumbents.

4. PAS no match for BN Sarawak

Apart from Beting Maro and Sadong Jaya, PAS lost to BN with huge margins of 2,000 to 4,000, an impossible gap to close.

Furthermore, BN has held huge majorities in the seats tackled by PAS, since 1963.

5. Malay loyalty

PAS also failed to take into account the loyalty of the Malays and Melanaus who are mainly civil servants, to the BN, and the fear amongst the Malays of having a Dayak Christian like Baru Bian as Pakatan’s choice for chief minister.

Korang rasa?

Aku rasa, sejarah PAS sebelum ni yang "kurang senang" atau "kurang suka" atau "kurang memahami" kaum bukan Melayu dan bukan Islam menyebabkan parti ni kurang mendapat sambutan atau tidak mendapat sambutan.

Plus, di mana-mana PAS memerintah, tidak ada atau tidak banyak perubahan yang diorang bagi. And I don't think the fact that they are now part of Pakatan akan mengubah kenyataan ni. Sarawak dah la banyak tempat belum atau kurang develop. Kalau mana-mana tempat jatuh ke tangan PAS, what do you think will happen? Will it change anything? Uh-uhh... I don't think so.

That's what I think. Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong.
